One of our volunteer advocates, Amandas, wrote an article for Jacobin Mag about the under-reported rates of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) suffered by women arriving to the UK as asylum seekers. As Baobab had just completed an extensive advocacy and casework report that was published in May, we recognised the severity of the levels of sexual violence faced by many of our service users.
We have heard from many SGBV survivors about hostile immigration practices leading to poor trauma-informed care and support. Two of our advocate-directors, Sarah and Espoir, contributed insights to Amandas’s article based on our casework.
